For Henry’s 1st birthday dessert table, I knew I wanted a backdrop that made a big impact. I searched and searched on pinterest for something that would be cute, but not crazy expensive, or hard to make. I was so happy when I stumbled upon this diy crepe paper fringe garland over on Oh Happy Day. You can find even more detailed instructions here. Something important to remember is not to use crepe paper streamers for this. I guess you could make teeny tiny fringe garland using those, but you need sheets of crepe paper to make the big stuff. You can find some of that here.
Start by unrolling and stretching your crepe paper sheets, and then cut it in half length wise. *I was able to make all of these streamers, with extra left over with three packs of crepe paper.
Cut each piece in half length wise one more time–depending on how big/thick you want your streamers.
Fold the paper to make the cutting process easy-peasy. I folded each strip about 12-18″ each so they weren’t too thick to cut.
Begin creating the fringe by cutting half way up to the midway point.
Feed your baby some snacks and give him WHATEVER he wants to play with so he will stop trying to grab your scissors and crepe paper 🙂
Turn over your folded crepe paper and cut the fringe on the other side by cutting half way up to the midway point, being careful not to cut all the way through!
Unroll and marvel at all the fringey goodness you created!
I love how it turned out! It was a tad bit time consuming, but very easy to make! My girls both said they want some for their next parties…I’ll probably be making lots more in the future!
